10 HIDDEN Instagram Features You Should Know in 2020 (Tricks and Instagram Story HACKS!)

Hey everyone, welcome back! In today’s post, I’m going to be sharing with you 10 hidden Instagram features that you probably didn’t know exist. Do watch the video for the full tutorials with the step-by-step screen recording on how to get these tricks done.

The first thing few things that I’m going to show you will help you to gain more control on who interacts with you, so that you can keep your stalkers at bay and unfollow people without unfollowing them. Then, I will move on to features and shortcuts that help make your life easier, and end with some really cool features to improve your aesthetics on Instagram.

Feature 1: Restrict Users

If you don’t want to block users because you don’t want them to know that you have blocked them, you can actually restrict that user instead. Just go to your settings by tapping on the hamburger menu at the top right-hand corner of your feed, tap on “settings”, select “privacy”, followed by “restricted accounts”, and type in the username of the person that you want to restrict.

So what happens when you restrict someone? Well, you can temporarily limit their interactions so let me explain how it works. The person can leave comments on your post but they won’t show up on your feed. However, only that person will be able to view their comment on your post, so it’s sort of like blocking them from interacting with you without them knowing so they end up talking to themselves instead.

When they are restricted, any message that they send to you will be moved to message requests, so that they won’t be able to see when you’re online or whether you have read their messages. Pretty cool, right?

Feature 2: Hide Your Story

You can hide your story from a user by changing your privacy settings as well. Under settings, select “privacy”, tap on “story”, and select “hide story from”. You can type in the username of the person that you want to hide your stories from, so that user will never be able to view any story that you post as it won’t show up on their feed.

You can also prevent users from sharing your stories by scrolling down and de-selecting the option “allow resharing to stories”.

Feature 3: Mute Accounts

Did you know that you can actually unfollow a user without unfollowing them? If you find someone annoying because they keep selling in every single post or because they post a hundred times a day, you can simply tap and hold on their profile image the next time they post a story, and tap on the “mute” button.

Once you have selected mute, you will be given a choice to mute their story or to mute both their story and posts. You can finally heave a sigh of relieve because you can stop viewing their posts without having to unfollow them.

Feature 4: Turn Off Comments

You can choose to turn off comments for a post, so that users won’t be able to comment on it. All you need to do is to post an image or video as usual, and before uploading it, select “advanced settings”, and select “turn off commenting”.

You can also choose to turn the comments back on later if you change your mind, and this feature will be useful if you want to use it for privacy reasons, and also commonly used to run contests so that users can no longer participate once the comments feature has been turned off.

Feature 5: Quick Replies

If you don’t want to waste time typing out a standard reply that you use frequently, for example, such as replying to customer enquiries on a daily basis, then you can create quick replies. All you need to do is go to your settings, tap on “creator”, and then, tap on “quick replies”.

Add a new one by typing in your message and create a shortcut for it. Whenever you type in this shortcut in your messages, the entire message will appear which saves you a lot of time, especially if your reply is a long one!

Feature 6: View All Posts You Have Liked

You can track your activity by viewing all posts that you have liked. Just go to settings, tap on “account”, and select “posts you’ve liked”. You can like posts as a way to save content as this history of posts you have liked can work as your mood board if you are trying to gather inspiration for creating content.

If you have ever wanted to show your friend a piece of content but just couldn’t remember where you found it or who posted it, this feature will come in handy as it can help you find a post that you have liked but forgot the username of the person who posted it.

Feature 7: Zoom In and Out of Your Stories with One Hand

I’m pretty sure you have tried pinching in to zoom out into a video when recording a story, or thought that the superzoom feature was the only way to zoom into your videos while recording. Well, you can literally zoom in with one hand by holding down the record button and just by sliding your finger up and down the screen to zoom in and out, and it’s that easy!

Feature 8: Create Rainbow Text in Your Stories

This is a super cool feature because most people don’t know about it and I haven’t really seen anyone use it yet. You can type rainbow text in your stories and there are 2 ways to go about it. The first way is more time consuming because you would need to select each letter and change the colour of the alphabet individually. The second method is a quick and easy way.

What you need to do is highlight the entire text, use one thumb to press and hold on a colour of your choice, and you will see a gradient of colours appear. Move the end cursor on the bottom right with your left hand finger and simultaneously glide your right hand across the screen each time your left hand goes past one letter.

Feature 9: Add Translucent Overlay in Your Stories

You can add a translucent overlay in your stories over any image or video by doing the following. Post a story as usual, select the drawing tool, and tap on the highlighter tool when you are at the edit page.

Select the colour of your choice, then tap and hold on your image or video. A translucent overlay will appear which will lower the opacity of your image, and you can use this to make your text appear more visible over your image or video.

Feature 10: Access Hidden Filters

The filters that you see are not the only filters available on Instagram. Post a photo or video as usual, and scroll all the way to the right and you will be able to manage your filters by tapping on “manage”.

You will notice that only the filters that are selected with a tick sign on the right are shown and there are other filters which you can enable by tapping to select them. You can also tap and hold to arrange the filters so that your favourite filter will show up in the order of your choice.

Most people are so focused on the number of followers that they have, however, we need to focus more on the amount of engagement received, especially ever since the algorithm change in 2019.

As I’ve mentioned many times in my others videos, Instagram prioritizes posts which receives higher levels of engagement. So while having lots of followers helps with your social proof and enables you to be seen as an authoritative figure in your niche, it is actually more important to have higher levels of engagement.

If you have lots of followers but you have very low levels of engagement such as very few likes and comments, it’s not really going to help your post perform well or be shown to more people because that’s just how the Instagram algorithm works.

The Instagram algorithm isn’t going to show your post to more people because you have lots of followers, but they are more likely to show your content to more people when the algorithm detects that your content is receiving high levels of engagement and performing well.

Tip One: Model Success

First of all, you can increase the number of likes on your post by modelling success. This means that before you even upload your post, you are going to browse through the Instagram explore page to see what kind of post is proven to receive high levels of likes and comments.

You don’t want to focus on likes alone, because other forms of engagement are also being measured such as comments, saves and shares. As long as we focus on these engagement metrics, we won’t go wrong. So once you have found examples of posts that are proven to receive high levels of engagement, you are going to create your own version of it.

Tip 2: Add a Call-to-action

Secondly, we are going to make sure that the caption of your post has a call-to-action to encourage users to like and comment on your post if they agree, to boost your engagement levels. Sometimes people need to be prompted to take action if not, they might just scroll past to view the next post on their feed.

Tip 3: Cross-promote Your Post

Next, cross-promote your post on your Instagram story. Usually, I will share the new post on my feed to my Instagram story and use some stickers to notify my followers that I have a new post.

I don’t only notify them, but I also tease them by using the sticker to cover up some parts of the image so that they can’t view the entire image in my story unless they tap on it and get redirect to the original post on my feed. Last of all, don’t forget to add the “tap here” sticker so that users know that they can tap on the image and be redirected to your post as some of them might not be aware of this feature.

The more people you get to view your post, the more you will be able to get more likes and comments.

Tip 4: Use Relevant Hashtags

Next, be sure to use relevant hashtags so that you can be found by targeted users who are not following you. Hashtags should never be underestimated as it can help you be found on the Instagram explore page, and help you be seen by a large amount of people, especially if it appears under the “top posts” category.

Focus on long-tail hashtags that are relevant, so that you are attracted the right audience and not just a general audience of random people who might not be interested in your content. This is very essential especially if you are building a personal brand or using Instagram for your business.

Tip 5: Use Location Tags

Next, add location tags as these can help you be found by people who are doing a search within the region, especially if you are running a local business.

If you have not noticed, posts with location tags receive more likes and higher engagement levels because more people are able to view those posts.

All you need to do is tap on “add location” so that your post will show up whenever someone does a location search.

In today’s post, I’m going to talk about how to gain Instagram followers organically in 2020. The big algorithm change happened in 2019 and many people hated it because of the reduce in engagement they received on Instagram. In fact, some of you might still be hating it now and feel like quitting Instagram.

Be sure to read on until the end because this is a new strategy that can help you gain Instagram followers organically in 2020 and grow from 0 to 10k followers fast.

If you’re not sure what’s going on with Instagram, with the algorithm change, drop in engagement, and Instagram hiding likes, it seems like the entire platform is screwed up right now.

If you want to learn how to get more followers on Instagram in 2020, you will need to know how Instagram works so that you can work in their favour to get more engagement and followers. Makes sense?

So how Instagram works now is that posts are no longer shown in chronological order as they show up on your feed based on engagement levels, the amount of activity received, and the interactions with specific users.

What this means is that posts with higher levels of engagement will be prioritized by Instagram and be further boosted and recommended to show up to more people on other user’s feed and on the Instagram explore page.

In fact, your post is no longer shown to everyone who is following you but only to 10% of your audience, and I know that this sucks. So what is happening is that Instagram only shows your content to 10% of your users and this is what they call the micro-test phase.

During the micro-test phase, they will determine the amount of engagement received on that post, then they will decide whether or not your post should be shown to more of your followers or whether it should be recommended on the Instagram explore page.

Not only that, it is not only about the number of engagement received but also the type of engagement received.

Not all Instagram users are made equal and Instagrammers with a larger following have a higher power rating. This means that if an influencer engages with your post, your post will be seen as more valuable and of higher quality according to the algorithm.

This means that one influencer with 10,000 followers has more power compared to 10 users with 1,000 followers who engage on your post, which determines whether your post should be shown to more users during the micro-test phase.

And by engage I mean by liking and leaving a comment on your post. The number of interactions basically, including if your post is being saved or shared by others. The more interaction it gets, the better.

So anyway, because of this reason, joining engagement pods are becoming useless when you are getting regular users to comment on your post, because it is not seen as valuable according to Instagram.

What you will need is a bunch of powerful influencers to comment and engage with your post in order to been seen as a piece of content that should be boosted by Instagram’s algorithm.

Another thing to note is that the micro-test phase happens the moment you upload a post, so you will need to receive as much engagement as you can before it gets recommended and boosted by Instagram so that your post will be shown to more people.

This is why it is great to reply to people as soon as they comment on your post. It not only helps the algorithm, but it also helps you build relationships with others, especially if you are trying to build a strong brand.

So why am I telling you all this stuff? The way to gain Instagram followers on 2020 is by increasing your engagement, because when you increase your engagement, your post will be able to reach more people, especially people who are not following you once Instagram boosts your post on the Instagram explore page.

Instagram has the power to show your content to millions of people if they want to, and that is how posts go viral. When it receives a high level of engagement, it gets shown to more people, and this cycle keeps repeating and getting shown to more and more people; it’s a snowball effect.

Now, the next thing is, how do you create a post that is engaging? A lot of people are asking me, how do I create a viral post?

Well, if you’re lazy then you can find something that has already gone viral or if you are smart, you can repost that piece of viral content which has already proven to create lots of engagement.

The only thing it’s not original and it’s not created by you, so some people might have already seen that post. However, it is a strategy that A LOT of people use to get overnight success.

On the other hand, if you are creative, you can create your own unique post or a funny meme which you think might generate lots of engagement, and don’t forget to ask people to share their opinions by commenting or sharing the post.

Adding a simple call-to-action can help you to increase your overall engagement and direct users to take the action that you want them to take.

Another thing you can do is to conduct research and find out topics that are already trending and ride the wave of the trend.

You can create a meme or video around a trending topic, because that is when the topic is hot and everyone is talking about it.

It’s the same concept as musicians making covers of new hit songs, to ride the wave of the trend when the song is on the top charts and likely to be searched on YouTube and other social media platforms.

My advice for you is if you want to gain followers, don’t focus on getting followers or following people but focus on creating engagement for your content. Creating quality and engaging content is the way to go if you want your post to receive high levels of engagement.

Your content needs to be valuable or entertaining enough so that users will want to comment on it, share it and save it.

If you have noticed, I don’t focus on the number of likes because comments and shares have higher weightage as compared to likes, which is the reason why Instagram has also started hiding likes in some countries and accounts.

Likes are just a vanity metric and it should not be something that you focus on right now, especially since the algorithm change.

Have you ever seen an account on Instagram with less than 10K followers making money on Instagram? If you have seen some people doing ads for companies and recommending products on their feed while tagging the company involved, then you are right to assume that it is a sponsored post and they are probably being paid to do so.

So the question is, how do you even get companies to sponsor you anyway? Must you be someone famous in real life so that companies start approaching you magically without having to do anything?

Step 1: Create Engaging Content

How I started out was I first focused on growing my influence by producing quality content, so that I could attract my target audience and create lots of engagement on my page. Having a large amount of followers and a low level of engagement doesn’t mean anything, and brands won’t want to work with you if you have very little likes and comments on your posts.

Step 2: Give Users a Reason to Follow You

Focus on creating content which informs, inspires and entertains, so that your followers actually look forward to seeing content from you.

In the past, I used to post guitar covers which entertains and inspires my followers, and that was how I increased engagement and my following in a very short amount of time.

Ever since I’ve switched my niche to digital marketing and online business, I’ve continued to post inspirational content to help others be motivated to achieve their goals.

Step 3: Take Your Instagram Account Seriously

If you don’t take yourself seriously, no one else will. When you treat your Instagram account seriously like a business, you will be willing to put in the effort to create quality content on a consistent basis.

In fact, if you are planning to monetize your Instagram account, it is a business in itself because you are going to make profits from it.

Step 4: Take Action and Put Yourself Out There

The reason why influencers or businesses on Instagram are gaining popularity and making big money from what they do is because they are willing to put themselves out there by taking the first step.

If they had compared where they used to be to where other successful people presently are, then they probably would not see success if they didn’t take the first step to put themselves out there.

Nobody started an Instagram account with 10,000 followers, but everyone who is successful worked their way up. Most of the time, the reason why people don’t get started is because that they don’t believe that they are capable of achieving what they actually can.

Step 5: Network with Influential Figures

Yes, you can network with influential figures even if you have less than 10,000 followers. If you thought that no one would not want to respond to you because you have less than 10,000 followers, then that might have stopped you from reaching out to them.

Building strong connections with influential figures is a good way to start putting yourself out there and that was also how I started. Don’t be afraid to make the first move.

I was first afraid that no one would reply me, but I did it anyway because it doesn’t matter whether a few people ignore you.

That should not prevent you from trying because eventually you will find those who value the relationship from networking, which can be mutually beneficial.

Now, we have come to the part where you will learn various ways on how to monetize your Instagram account, with little to no money involved.

Method 1: Sell Sponsored Posts

Selling sponsored posts is a business in itself, if you are able to build your reputation as an influential figure in a particular niche.

After I gained my first 30,000 followers, I was wondering why no brands were approaching me yet. That was when I realised it was because they were not aware of my online presence, and they basically didn’t know that I exist.

So, that was when I started to network and reach out to brands whom I wanted to work with by sending them direct messages. That was how I got the ball rolling and started making few hundreds of dollars per sponsored post.

I’ve seen other users monetize their account even with 1,000 followers, so it’s not true that you need an extremely large following.

Networking with relevant brands is a way to help create awareness for your online presence, so that people actually know what you are doing.

You can start with doing sponsored posts and get items in exchange for free, as some brands implement this as part of their marketing strategy. From there, brands will usually repost your sponsored post, which brings further awareness to other companies that you are someone who is provided sponsored posts.

You can start to charge for it once you have slowly built your reputation and once you are known for being an influencer in that particular niche. You can even create a niche account, and sell ad space on your Instagram profile.

For example, if you love travelling, you can create a travel page and share travel-related images. You can offer to sell ad space to travel companies and users who want to grow their page by offering paid shoutouts, by sharing their posts and getting paid to mention them.

Method 2: Affiliate Marketing

This means that you are selling and promoting products that you don’t actually own. You basically refer people and get a commission from the seller whenever someone buys the product from you.

There are many online affiliate marketing platforms such as ClickBank and Commission Junction, and you can earn up to few hundreds to few thousands per day, depending on the products that you sell and depending on how many people make the purchase.

It’s a great way to start earning money without being an influencer and without having any business or money to begin with. You can place your affiliate link in your profile bio, and market it through your Instagram posts, stories, and direct messages.

Method 3: Start a Business and Direct Visitors to Your Website

I started making a decent salary when I started an e-commerce store on Shopify selling guitar accessories, and by creating a niche-related page whereby I share guitar covers from guitar players all over the world.

I used my Instagram account @theguitaryard, to provide entertainment value by reposting content submitted by guitar players, while having my store link in my profile bio. Instagram has helped me to spread brand awareness successfully through this method.

Step 1: Engage with Accounts in Your Niche

If you want to receive engagement, you will need to go out and start engaging with others first. Take the time and effort to look for accounts that are similar in your niche, and start engaging with them on a regular basis. Usually, users will take notice and return the favour by liking and commenting on your posts as well.

Instagram is an engagement platform, and the best way to increase engagement is to proactively engage. Engaging proactively means that you are making the effort to engage and initiate conversation with your target audience, so that you can reach a wider audience.

You can search for relevant content based on hashtags, and also content which is recommended by Instagram on the Instagram explore page. You can also search for users specifically by typing keywords into the search bar. Be as specific as possible in order to find your target audience, especially when it comes to hashtags.

You can also engage with your competitors’ followers and engage with those who have engaged with your competitors.

Step 2: Engage Before and After You Upload a Post

Engaging with users before and after you upload a post can help you to increase the amount of engagement on your new post. People will usually check out your latest post and return the favour by liking and commenting on it. This is a great way to boost engagement right after you upload it so that your post can be naturally boosted by Instagram’s algorithm once it is receiving a good amount of engagement. The more engagement you receive, the more Instagram will recommend your posts to other users who have shown interests in similar content.

Step 3: Engage with Users Who Have Uploaded a Recent Post

You can find users who have recently uploaded a new post on their feed by searching a hashtag under the Instagram explore page and by selecting the “recent” tab. As they have just uploaded a post recently, they are more likely to be online and also more likely to notice that you have engaged with their post as their new post usually has very little engagements and maybe even none at all. When you do this, you will be able to receive engagement on your post almost immediately if they have noticed you engaging with them and decide to check out your profile as well.

Step 4: Create Calls-to-action in Your Caption

You can encourage users to interact with your post by creating calls-to-action. These are simple ways to get users to interact with your content and will help to create engagement as people love to share their opinions.

Step 5: Cross-promote Content on Your Instagram Story

Instagram stories receive higher levels of engagement compared to Instagram posts, so you should take advantage of cross-promoting your content on your Instagram story. You can share your new post directly on your Instagram story, so that users will be aware that you have uploaded a new post. When you do so, all you need to do is add a sticker which says “tap here”, and users can tap on your story to be redirected to your new post on your feed.

As a business owner, it might be challenging to find ways to reach out to your target audience, especially when it comes to digital marketing strategies.

Method 1: Network with Centers of Influence

The first method that I have for you is to network with centers of influence. Successful businesses are built upon strong relationships with others, and influencers have the ability to boost your reputation and credibility through word of mouth, collaborations and partnerships.

It is one of the best ways to reach out to your target audience by leveraging on an existing audience which is highly targeted if you connect with centers of influence who are in your specific niche.

If you are able to afford it, you can look for influencers who are willing to do paid sponsored posts, to help you increase your brand visibility with their existing audience.

The reason why this is so effective is because they have already built a relationship with their followers, and their followers trust them. 

Method 2: Offer to Help Others

If you feel that investing in paid sponsored posts is too costly because you are a small business, the second method that you can use to start spreading the word about your business is to offer to help others.

Networking is not just about benefiting yourself but it is about building relationships whereby both parties can benefit from each other. It is not just about receiving help from others but also making the effort to help others out.

When you offer to help others as well, the person on the receiving end may find this help so useful that they start recommending your services to others.

When you start with helping others out, you can request for testimonials in return to start building your social proof and gain credibility, so that you can kickstart your business and start bringing in sales.

Realistically, it is tough to get your first sale if your company does not have any reviews or testimonials because buyers are savvier these days, and they tend to do their research and make comparisons online before making a buying decision.

A strong professional network should never be underestimated, as having testimonials can help you to have a competitive edge over other businesses and help with your career development.

Method 3: Optimize Keywords to Improve Visibility

The third method that you can use is to optimize keywords to improve visibility. Always conduct keyword research when you are creating content so that your content can be optimized for the keywords that you are targeting.

If you have a website, investing in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) will be beneficial in the long run. If you are not sure what SEO is, it is basically using keywords that are commonly searched for by users on Google.

For example, you are searching for a dentist in Oceanside California, so you open Google and key in “Dentist in Oceanside California”.

Most people will be likely to click on the first result which shows up on Google, and the websites which appear as the top few results is because they have optimized their website using SEO using the keywords “Dentist in Oceanside California”, to rank on the first page of Google for that search term.

Hiring an SEO expert can cost you few hundreds to thousands a month, depending on the number of keywords and locations that you want to rank for.

As a new startup with a small budget, you cannot afford to waste money and blow your budget before you even breakeven and start to make profits. If you do have capital set aside, then it is advisable that you start investing in SEO right away because once you start to rank on Google, you can literally get free traffic as you don’t have to rely on paid-per-click ads.

It is best to hire an expert once you have the financial capabilities to do so. You can also choose to invest in an SEO tool which is much cheaper, conduct the SEO research yourself and add those keywords into your website.

However, SEO is not just about keywords as it includes on-page and off-page optimization, including link-building and it can get really complicated because you need to know certain rules such as avoiding keywords stuffing which can result in your page being flagged as spam and even removed from the search engine results page.

In order to conduct SEO effectively, you will need to take an SEO course to be fully equipped and be able to implement all the techniques involved so that you can rank your website using white hat methods.

If you are on a budget, you can also start with other free methods such as social media marketing.

Method 4: Cross-Promote Content on Social Media

The forth method is to cross-promote content on social media. Cross-promoting content on social media is a great way to increase your brand awareness and direct people to your other social media accounts.

For example, whenever I upload a new video on YouTube, I will cross-promote it on Instagram, and share it in my Facebook group and on my Facebook page, including LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Twitter.

Uploading content is not enough if you just let it stay where it is. Whenever you create new content, you should cross-promote so that you can reach a wider audience on various platforms, and encourage them to follow your other social media accounts for more updates.

You can engage with your target audience by searching for relevant topics by using hashtags on Instagram, or by joining relevant Facebook groups. These are free methods to get your brand out if you are not running any paid ads.

It is actually not difficult to grow an audience like what most people think, because growing your audience is just about your willingness to dedicate the time to engage with others and build your community.

Method 5: Invest in Paid Ads

The fifth method is to invest in paid ads. Investing in paid ads can help you deliver instant results as compared to waiting for your website to rank on Google through SEO.

Paid ads can help you receive a decent return on investment, and statistics have shown that 75% of users engage on an Instagram ad that they see.

Social media also has a 100% lead-to-close rate compared to outbound marketing, making it a very effective platform for converting your followers into customers.

Running paid ads can help you reach your target audience and people who are interested in your products or services even if they are not following you yet.

Ads can help to create brand awareness, higher levels of engagement, and bring in leads and eventually sales for your business.

If you have the necessary training and qualifications, you can start a home spa business and provide beauty services, with clients coming to your home to receive treatments. The whole idea of starting a business from home is to have flexibility and to free up the time that you have, so that you don’t need to work a 9 to 5 job or be constantly spending all your hours at work.

Take these small business ideas, and try to think of ways you can turn it into a source of recurring revenue for yourself, by removing yourself as the freelancer and implementing a successful business strategy so that your business can run even when you are not available.

Running a successful business from home is not just about making money, but being able to manage your time effectively with the right systems and strategy. Ultimately, the goal as moms is to work smarter and not harder, so that we can spend time with our loved ones and provide for them at the same time, without being overworked.

Many small business owners make the mistake of putting it off because they think their customers are able to find them because they know who they are, but they do not realise how a strong online presence can really benefit their business progress in the long run, and how it can actually multiply their revenue.

Having a social media presence can also help you be ahead of those competitors who don’t already have their social media accounts set up yet!

Marketing goals are specific objectives to help you work towards your desired outcomes, and it is essential in growing your business.

Being on Facebook or Instagram alone isn’t enough.

On the other hand, being on every single social media platform is too overwhelming and it can cause you to lose focus.

You will first need to know the demographics of your target audience and where they are most likely to “hang out” on social media.

For example, Pinterest reaches 83% of women aged 25-54, so if you are trying to sell workout supplements for muscle building to men, you probably shouldn’t focus on using Pinterest as part of your social media strategy.

However, if you are running a food recipe blog, Pinterest will be a great place to reach your target audience.

When you know your target audience well, you will be able to decide which social media platforms you should focus on.

My advice to you is to find the top 3 social media platforms where your target audience use the most frequently and focus on using these 3 platforms. 

Tip 3: Post Consistently

Once you have decided on the top 3 platforms that you are going to use, you will need to ensure that you are posting content consistently on these platforms.

People want to engage with a brand that is active. For example, if you stumble across a page and their last post was a few months ago, you’re not very likely to follow them, right?

Posting consistently creates trust with users in a psychological way.

What I mean by that is, it will create the impression that you are responsive and present to answer queries because your social media accounts are active.

If your last post was a few months or weeks ago, people will have the impression that you won’t be there to respond to their queries, which may create concerns with regards to purchasing your products or services.

Posting consistently will also ensure that your content is up-to-date so that your followers are aware of what’s going on and what’s the latest news.

When you post on a regular basis, this also helps you create more engagement on your social media platforms, which ranks content based on the amount of engagement received.

When your content receives more engagement, it will naturally be boosted by the algorithm to enable your post to be seen by more people. This is how it works on most social media platforms, especially Facebook and Instagram.

According to Quicksprout, 52% of small businesses post on social media on a daily basis.

This means that if you post daily, you will be able to make a lasting impression, stand out and be ahead of 48% of the rest who don’t!

The thing from holding most small businesses back from posting content daily is because they do not know what to post. If you look back at your marketing goals, this can really help to direct you with regards to creating your content.

Tip 4: Post Valuable Content

People need a reason to follow you, and they will only do so if they find that your content is valuable and relevant to them.

Most likely, they will follow you because they are interested in viewing updates of your products and services, or they are looking out for exclusive promotions that you can offer them.

The best way to provide value is to share content that is informative, such as tips, tutorials or infographics, and also offer some discounts every now and then, so that there is an incentive for them to follow you.

The key here is that the content that you produce needs to be WORTH following in the eyes of your target audience.

Flash discounts and contests are a great way to create hype, and you can include rules in your contest such as by getting them to follow you, like the post, and comment by tagging their friends.

Tip 5: Build Relationships with Influencers

Forming relationships with influencers can help you increase your social media presence on a large scale.

Believe or not, influencer marketing is the FASTEST-growing online customer acquisition method according to Quicksprout.

Influencer marketing helps to build credibility and trust for your business because these influencers have already successfully established themselves as the experts in their niche.

Studies have shown that tweets from influencers have increased users purchase intent 5.2X.

Influencer marketing is also extremely effective because you are reaching a target audience that is highly focused and relevant, which is why it is able to generate a high return on investment due to the relevance presented.

It also does not appear to be pushy, which is why it is much more effective as compared to ads.

It is also more cost-effective as compared to running paid ads, as micro-influencers charge around $500 and below per post, and some are even willing to do it for free in exchange for your products.

The thing is, a lot of people want to make easy money online just by filling up forms but to be honest, you can’t really earn much from doing that.

The best way to earn good money and eventually turn your side income into a full-time gig is to develop a high income skill. Some of you might already have these skills, but if you don’t, it is worth investing your time to learn something new.

Once you master one of these skills, this can eventually lead you to endless opportunities down the road if you choose to turn it into your full-time career.

Let me give you a good example of a high income skill versus a high income job. If you work as an employee with a high income, you can get paid for the number of hours that you work, and that’s about it.

On the other hand, when you have a high income skill, you can choose to charge more for your services with the potential to dramatically increase your earnings, because you can close high ticket clients and you can increase you rate based on your own terms.

The fact that this is not a 9 to 5 job also means that you have the flexibility to work from home or while travelling.

The first high income skill is copywriting. When you first start out as a writer, you might be earning a part-time income from writing in general.

You might be wondering what is the most important aspect of setting up and running a successful business. If you don’t know it yet, the key is to KNOW WHO YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE.

In order to know who your customers are, you need to have a specific niche, because within that specific niche, you will be able to find your target audience.

Your target audience is basically the group of people who share the same interests and similar demographics.

A quick example would be, people who want to start an online business are mostly aged 20 to 35 and they are interested in marketing and they might have common interests such as following GaryVee on social media.

You see, once you know who your target audience is, you will then be able to implement how your marketing is done, including the process of your content and product development.

Therefore, choosing a niche should NEVER be underestimated

Have you heard of the saying that “If you try to sell to everyone, you will sell to no one”?

For example, if you are someone who is interested in guitars, and you happen to see these 2 ads: one of them says “looking for performers” whereas the other one says “looking for guitar players”.

Which one would you be more likely to respond to?

I’m pretty sure you’ll respond to the ads which says “looking for guitar players” as it is directly addressing who you are because you relate to it.

This is the reason why you can’t create an ad that is so general and hope that someone will relate to it. This is also the reason why we need to choose a subniche within our niche, in order to have successful marketing for our business.

Identify Your Passion and Skills

The best way to choose a niche is to first decide on what you enjoy and what you are good at. This way, you will be able to monetize from your passion and your skill.

With the two key factors combined, you will be able to build a strong foundation for your business.

Doing something that you are passionate about will keep you motivated in the long run, because you are doing something that you love. This will be the main drive that keeps you going whenever you feel like giving up.

If you are doing something that doesn’t really interest you, you have a higher chance of quitting once things get difficult.

When you also choose something that you are good at, it means that you will have the ability to solve problems in that particular market, because you are using a skill-set that you already have.

Identify Your Target Customers’ Problems

In order for your business to be profitable, you need to be able to solve problems for you customers. In order to solve their problems, you will first need to be AWARE of the problems that they are facing.

So how do you know what sort of problems they are facing? With the internet at our fingertips, we can easily search for keywords on Google to find out what are the pains our potential customers are facing.

Quora is also a great platform to discover the questions that people are asking, which is a great place to do your market research. Take a look at the discussions that are taking place and try to notice what questions they are asking, along with what problems they are facing.

Research Your Competition

I mention this a lot in my videos and articles, because you need to know your competition before you even start anything.

Why is this so?

If you don’t know who your competitors are and where you stand, you will not be able to determine whether the niche you pick is profitable or not, and whether the market is too over-saturated.

Imagine joining a singing competition without knowing who you are competing against, and among the competitors you have top celebrities like Adele and Justin Bieber.

Knowing your competitors will give you an idea on how to outrank them by studying their strengths and weaknesses.

Perhaps Justin Bieber is bad at falsettos, and you’re great at it, so you can use it as your strength. When you know that there are sharks in the ocean, you will be more well prepared when you dive in.

Determine Potential Profitability

During your market research, you should have an idea of the profitability of your niche.

Choosing an evergreen industry is one way to ensure that your business will be in a profitable market. Some markets just tend to perform better than others because they are evergreen, which means that there is always demand in those markets.

You can do your research on ClickBank by finding top products that are selling well. You can also do a research using Google Trends to find trending topics and keywords that are highly searched for.

You will need to do this to determine whether the niche you have chosen has a need and whether people are willing to pay for what you have to offer.

Validate Your Idea

Last but not least, the last thing that you want to do before deciding on your niche is to validate your idea by running a test.

You can use crowdfunding websites such as Kickstarter to validate your product idea and raise funds in the process.

You can also create a landing page on MailChimp and start collecting leads just to see how well the promotion goes and whether the niche that you choose has any demand.

One quick way to do that is by running a few paid ads to direct users to your landing page, and see the response that you get.

The worst thing that can happen is choosing a “wrong” niche, registering your company and have your website up and running, only to realise that nobody wants your products or services.

These are mistakes that you can avoid, if you implement all these steps before finalizing the niche that you want to be in and before starting your actual business.
